She Shines - The Film

Grace goes on a journey through time, on a mission to rescue her younger self.

After what seems like a lifetime of feeling not good enough, watching her parents go through a painful divorce, being bullied at school, and later finding herself in an abusive relationship, Grace decides to write a letter to her younger self, to tell her it will all be ok. 

Grace seals the beautifully hand written letter inside a glass bottle, along with a pink crystal heart, and travels to a magical place to release the letter and the memories of her past to be free to flow in the mystical river, sending Grace on a journey though time to rediscover her self-worth as she tries to find her true self.

In pursuit of her goal, she seeks to find her true self and remind her that she is worthy.

This is a love story like no other… A story about self-love and self-worth. We are all born with pure joy shining from our inner being, and an inner knowing of our value and worth. Through the many challenges that life presents, pain and suffering, and unexpected adversities, we can lose sight of this inner light and who we truly are. 

She Shines was created from a poem I wrote many years ago, at a time in my life where I was breaking free from the heavy clouds of darkness and fear, searching for freedom from the shackles of shame caused by domestic violence.

At the time of writing the poem I was sitting on a train people watching, and noticed a beautiful young woman who reminded me of me. She had a captivating radiance about her, but I could see that she was insecure, and broken on the inside.

‘She Shines’ tells a story of self-worth, and the value of self-worth. A journey of knowing it, losing it, and rediscovering it. I have had a vision to turn this poem into a film for many years, knowing in my heart and soul that this film will change lives and create a ripple effect of self-love. 

Throughout the film I have chosen to use the words of the poem only, with a voice-over narrating over the exquisite shots in each scene. There will be no other dialogue. The poem, beautiful music, and stunning shots will create the ethereal, whimsical, magical vision I have for bringing this story to fruition in the shape of a film. I hope to light a spark of joy in the hearts of many to know who they truly are, and how valuable they are. 

There is heaviness, hurt and darkness that our protagonist Grace goes through, but the film will show that there is always light and beauty along the way...even in the darkest days. 

The main premise of ‘She Shines’ is self-worth, although the film does raise issues such as domestic violence and bullying through carefully discussing these topics. It shows how different experiences can affect our self-worth and break it down. 

Grace first experiences losing a piece of her self-worth as a young child, when she overhears her parents arguing. She later gets bullied at school which breaks down another piece of her self-worth, and then finds herself in an abusive relationship, which ultimately leads her on a journey to find her true self and get to know her worth.

With a power-packed creative dream team made up of 80% female film makers on board this beautiful project, ‘She Shines’ is set to become a positive world-changing revolutionary resource, and kick-start the self-worth movement.
